Joseph Marius Omog just added a new feather to his cap by helping the Congolese club side, Leopard win the African Confederations cup title for the first time and put an end to a 38-year draught since a Congolese club last won a continental title. The achievement propels him to the limelight as a force to reckon with especially as they dismissed continental giants like Mas de Fes, Heartlands and Club Sfaxien on their way to glory.
The former player of dragon Yaounde is a trained sport and physical education teacher and a graduate of the higher Institute of Youth and Sports, INJS Yaounde. He went on the sharpen his skills in the former Republic of Germany and together with Pierre Njili and Martin Ndtoungou obtained a diploma as a football coach, UEFA licence B in 1987. Upon his return to the country, Joseph Marius Omog, trained several Cameroonian clubs, notably Fovu of Baham and Aigle of Menoua and attained the finals of the Cup of Cameroon with both clubs.
In 2001 he was appointed as assistant to Winfried Schafer at the helm of the Indomitable Lions thanks to his mastery of the German language as the German knew no word in French or English. In 2003 he was appointed head coach of the intermediate lions after the departure of Winfried Schafer but was dismissed in 2010 for lack of results after he failed to qualify Cameroon for the African nation’s championship.
He decided to sell his talent out of the country and in 2011 joined A C Leopard of the republic of Congo and won the cup title that same year which gave them the leeway to participate in the African Confederations Cup. The campaign turned out to be successful as Leopard emerged champion after beating Djoliba of Mali 2-1 in the return leg final on Sunday to lift the trophy 4-3 on aggregate.
