After a score of years in sports stardom, notably football, Cameroon is settling down to build its own infrastructure. News of the construction of a modern football stadium in Limbe, the sea-shore Fako Divisional headquarters, sparked anxiety and salted the hearts of the population of the area. The Government Delegate to Limbe City Council, Andrew Motanga, announced the appetizer 6 November while addressing the anniversary celebrants of Paul Biya’s 27 years in power. He said a contract between Cameroon and China had been signed in the nation’s capital, Yaounde, 5 November, for the construction of a befitting omnisports stadium in Bonadikombo (Mile 4 – Limbe).
Although coming after a long stressful labour, sports lovers have grown from a protracted waiting to a zealous welcoming of the project. When will the first stone be laid to kick off the construction works? The question preoccupies every lip in Limbe. China, as bearer of the good midwife news, is in praise. The already existing sports complex erected in Yaounde recently, is mouthwatering. Before meeting some personalities to comment on the importance of theproject of a football stadium, Cameroon Tribune visited the site near Mile 4 in Limbe 10 November. According to plan, the quiet Bonadikombo area site is waiting tounveil a football pitch in the next months.
The land has been allocated by government since last March measuring 12.56Ha (12h 56a 46ca). Its realisation will run full circle whirling political, economic, social and cultural advantages. Above all, the stadium should foster the growth of football and sports in the area through nurturing of the numerous budding talents known around. After all, if Cameroon can not yet set up car, plane and ship plants, why not begin with the football industry already proven in other horizons as a wondrous economic asset. After a series of glorious sports outings on the world scene, Cameroon has certainly received enough stimuli to invest in sports. The coming modern stadium appears to be a compass-gain of a proper direction. Infrastructure and training remain the bed rock of sports perfection.
The Limbe jewel will equally have a sports palace of 2.000 seats with communication gadgets as well as a commercial area.
