Cameroon’s clubs face tough second legs if they are to qualify for the quarter-finals of the continental cups, after Fovu Baham drew 0-0 in the Congo while Tonerre will take a 1-0 lead to Gabon.
Fovu Baham played out a comfortable 0-0 draw with Congo club AS Police in Brazzaville, but coach Joseph Koska will be aware that his side will be vulnerable to being eliminated on away goals in the second leg of their Cup-Winners Cup tie.
Tonnerre will face a nail-biting trip to Gabon, after they only managed to secure 1-0 win over TP Akwembe in their Champions League first leg in Yaounde.
The 7000 fans looked set to be disappointed until Nana Bikoula Alexander scored on 73 minutes. TP Akwembe goalkeeper Claude Boris Nguema got his hands to the ball, but could not keep it out.
Before the goal, Tonnerre had been comfortable kept at bay by the Gabonese defence, and even when they had chances, Gaspard Aloma and Raoul Feugang misfired upfront.
Despite winning, Tonnerre coach Richard Obateba was disappointed at the way his team had played.
« Instead of building moves from the back, we just launched long-balls to the strikers which were sent back to us, » he said.
« We did not see much of our opponents because they kept it very tight, but I think they could be dangerous if they are allowed to control the game.
« Consequently we are going to go into the second leg as if we did not have a one goal advantage. »
Akwembe coach Norbert Ossewa was confident of knocking Tonnerre out oin the second leg.
« Our strategy was to come here and obtain a comfortable result. We have done that. Now I can assure you that Tonerre will be going out in Libreville. »
