Essien Back For Black Stars?
Accra - January 12, 2006
The Michael Essien injury saga took another twist on Thursday, when it emerged that the Ghana star was back in light training with Chelsea and could yet make the Black Stars squad for the 2006 MTN Africa Cup of Nations.
Essien appeared to be out of the African showpiece tournament when a challenge from West Ham’s Nigel Reo Coker in an English Premier League match on January 2 left him with badly damaged ankle ligaments.
"The diagnosis is that until the end of the month it will be a recovery period for him,†Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho said at the time.
However, Essien appears to have make a faster recovery than first thought, and Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic could now decide to call on his star midfielder, bought by Chelsea for ₤24.4 millon from Lyon at the beginning of the season.
Chelsea have made it known they would prefer Essien to stay at home and receive treatment from their own doctors.
But Ghana also have the right to have their own doctors assess Essien’s fitness.
And if Chelsea refuse to release Essien, Ghana can also ensure through Fifa that he does not play a game for the English Champions during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Essien himself appears keen to join the Ghana squad as soon as possible.
“I will join the camp as soon as the Chelsea physiotherapist gives me the green light,†Essien told Ghanaian radio station Joy FM on Thursday.

Adebayor Hits Back At Monaco
Paris - January 12, 2006
Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has attacked the decision of his French club Monaco to exclude him from their first team on his return from the MTN African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Monaco president Michel Pastor said on Wednesday that the 21-year-old will also be fined for repeatedly missing training.
"He will no longer train with the professional team until further notice and there will also be financial sanctions", Pastor told reporters.
Monaco reported last week that the Hawks striker had not been seen for days but Adebayor says the club wanted to prevent him from joining his country's training camp ahead of the tournament in Egypt.
"They were telling the newspapers in France last week that they didn't know where I was. They knew I was with my national team," Adebayor told MTNfootball.com.
"I am having all these problems with them because they didn't want me to join my country for the Nations Cup.
"Togo is my country, it is in my blood so I want to serve my people.
"I will play for Togo whether they like it or not."
Adebayor would have faced a struggle to win back his place in the Monaco starting line-up even without the sanctions now that Italian strikers Marco Di Vaio and Christian Vieri have joined the club.

Serbian-based striker Boya and Bikey, from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow, won their first caps in November and were the surprise selections in the squad selected by coach Artur Jorge on Tuesday.
(Voici les histoir que les gens raconter par ici! J'ai bien peur que ca contamine tous le Cameroon et l'afrique!!!)
There was no place for Wome, not selected since his penalty miss cost Cameroon a berth at this year's World Cup finals.
The Inter Milan defender struck the upright with a last-minute penalty, which denied Cameroon the win over Egypt they needed to qualify for the World Cup. Instead the Ivory Coast finished top of the group.
Wome was embroiled in a subsequent war of words with team mate Samuel Eto'o over who had the responsibility to take the spot-kick.
Captain Rigobert Song's next appearance for Cameroon will mark his 100th cap, the first black African to achieve this milestone.
Song and Eto'o are among five players who were in Cameroon's winning sides at the 2000 and 2002 Nations Cup finals. The others are Chelsea's Geremi, midfielder Salomon Olembe and centre back Raymond Kalla, persuaded out of international retirement six months ago.
The list of 23 also included Timothee Atouba despite earlier reports that he had told the coach he would not travel unless guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.
Cameroon play in Group B at the Nations Cup with two World Cup finalists -- Angola and Togo -- as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo. The tournament runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 10.

@FACHE
