Prediction

A winning team is a happy team. Cameroon happened to be a very unhappy team in the wake of the Ghanaian AFCON. With a waning generation, it was time to change things and Paul Le Guen's arrival proved to be the electroshock they so desperately needed. If they don't make it to the semi-finals, it would be both a surprise and a disappointment for anyone who wants the African titans to do well this summer in South Africa.

But he is potentially the best goalkeeper in Africa (in the great tradition of Thomas Nkono and Joseph-Antoine Bell) and that's nothing new. A very precocious teen, the Espanyol keeper has an impressive trophy case and may need to move away from Barcelona to be credited as one of the greatest keepers around.

Playing for a constantly struggling Espanyol Barcelona is not great for his profile, but after refusing to move the year of both an AFCON and the World Cup, it is pretty evident that Kameni will leave his team at the end of the season. After refusing an insistent courtship from Ligue 1 champions Girondins de Bordeaux this summer, he could aim even higher next summer.

In the meantime, there is nothing that shows us that he'll be anything less than spectacular this year with the Indomitable Lions.

Young Gun

Stéphane M'bia decided to put his name on the map during the last African Cup of Nations in Ghana and he managed just that. The then 20 year-old literally sent all recruiters in a frenzy and showed great poise and intelligence by deciding to stay one more year at Stade Rennais and moving to Olympique de Marseille this summer.

By making the transition from his youth club to the biggest club (pressure-wise) in France, M'bia showed everyone that his plan was a slow one for someone described as in a rush to become important. In his early interviews, the youngster seemed presumptious even to his mentor Samuel Eto'o when he said he would be replacing Marc-Vivien Foe in more ways than one (he wears the same 17 jersey).

But with his style of play, his eagerness and his work in the midfield, he might be more technically gifted than his idol albeit a little less physically imposing. Stephane M'bia and his tongue will not be tied down. He's not a modest man, neither is his game. If he stays away from injuries, this AFCON is his to take.

Team Objective

Cameroon won't settle for anything other than the title. They' have said it over and over again. Paul Le Guen may have signed a longer lease recently but a disappointing result in Angola could mean his departure. So a lot is at stake for a team so eager to reclaim Continental supremacy. With a more than solid team, the Lions will be expected to dominate.

Cameroon went back on the right path, winning their remaining games against Gabon (beating their neighbours twice in four days), Togo and qualifying against Morocco in Fez.

The Coach

Paul Le Guen was appointed in July 2009 after a few weeks of interim coaching at the helm of the national team by local legend Thomas Nkono. He would later on keep Nkono on as the goalkeeper's trainer and his senior assistant. Le Guen only originally signed for a commando-mission type contract of six months, with the clear mission of qualifying the African Vice-champions to the first African Mundial in South Africa.

Before moving to Africa, Paul Le Guen was one of the symbolic defenders in the French league and a legend for Paris Saint-Germain where he was a beloved figure during the glory years, winning a UEFA Cup Winner's Cup in 1996 and playing more than 400 games with the Capitol club.

As a coach, he was quickly successful with Rennes and as the talisman man for Lyon from 2002 to 2005, winning three consecutive titles with the now seven-time champions. That's when he decided to leave because of internal conflicts and his unwillingness to see his work meddled with, feeling untrusted despite three titles under his belt.

His decision to leave Lyon gave him time to rest for a year before taking on Glasgow Rangers, a team where he never managed to get through to his players. Himself a very discreet man, he couldn't understand the Scottish team and he considered them unprofessional. After a year and a half, he was sacked and thus started a lobbying campaign by most of his ex-teammates at Paris, wanting him back there to repeat his success at Lyon.

Le Guen went back to his former team as coach, but the results never created league success with Paris even though he managed to win a Coupe de la Ligue and a Coupe de France against arch-rivals Marseilles. His run at Paris is retrospectively considered as unsuccessful. He won with a team he didn't compose and in a club that changed owners six months into his reign.

Star Player

Idriss Carlos Kameni is, aside from Samuel Eto'o, the best player on the Cameroonian team. Let's be honest, Kameni has never received his props in the European press and might never get the accolades he deserves.

World Cup Appearances: Five (1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002)
AFCON Appearances: 15
AFCON Titles: 4

The Cameroonian national football team, also known as the Indomitable Lions qualified for their sixteenth African Cup of Nations and their sixth World Cup after dominating Morocco in Fez, making them the all-time leading African team in World Cup participation.

After winning the Continental title four times, in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002, Cameroon wants to be back on top after having gone to the final the last time around before losing to their Egyptian rivals (who at the time were their equals in terms of titles as well. The Pharaohs have since surpassed them).

With one of the most compact teams in Africa and a new coach who has managed to build up the solidarity and mental strength of the squad, Cameroon are more than ever one of the favorites to take it all this January in Angola.

Road To Qualification

Cameroon was in Group 1 during the first round of the joint qualifiers to the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa alongside Tanzania, Cape-Verde and Mauritius. The Indomitable Lions managed to come out of that group undefeated, only conceding one draw to Tanzania and having two goals scored against them.

If the group was easy, that preparation phase was very tiring for the players and Cameroon's then coach Otto Pfister made the mistake of not wanting to change things so close to the World Cup and went on with the same team that played the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana to the second round of the qualifiers.

So Cameroon was pooled in Group A with Morocco, Togo and Gabon. Early observers looked at this group as the toughest one, the often nicknamed it the "Group of Death". With other countries having represented Africa in previous World Cups, it was pretty clear how the group would go. Everyone expected Gabon to be the victim and have Cameroon, Morocco and Togo scrap it out for the three spots.

But wrong were we all. Gabon had an amazing start and everyone Else's was catastrophic. The indomitable Lions started out by losing to Togo and drawing against Morocco. A national tragedy in Gabon postponed the third game of the qualifiers, leaving the Cameroonians with more than enough time to change managers and regroup as a team.

With the arrival of Paul Le Guen and his willingness to change things in the national team, Cameroon went back on the right path, winning their remaining games against Gabon (beating their neighbours twice in fo

@Kadafi
