"The second match involving the Nigerian male under-23 team against Cameroun even promises to be more explosive. Shima Ayati recalled that Vice President Atiku Abubakar was at the Lagos National Stadium
three years ago when Cameroun’s Indomitable Lions beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles on penalties to gain eternal possession of the “Unity Cup”, the former trophy for the African Cup of Nations. The Nigerian Vice President had the difficult task of handing over trophy to Cameroun’s skipper Rigobert Song instead of the anticipated Sunday Oliseh of Nigeria.
“This is the time to revenge”, Ayati said, hoping that Vice president Atiku Abubakar will this time have to present the gold medals to the Nigerian team.
Although Nigeria beat Cameroun at the LG Cup final, it is still hoped that a win in the All Africa Games will go a long way in redeeming the country’s image.
Two of the players in the side paraded by Cameoun at the LG Cup final match in Lagos last June are in the current Games’ side that will face Nigeria. They are Abada Narciss Fish and reserve goalkeeper Ndoe Mbarga Pierre".
