Zambian newspaper The Post reported that the players refused a bonus of around 2,000 dollars per head, offered after the 3-0 win over group minnows Sudan, insisting that they had been promised 2,500.

It was also reported that the team refused to train on Thursday because of the row.

"The development led to players threatening to boycott tomorrow's crunch match against Cameroon if their demand was not adequately addressed," a source told The Post.

The Times of Zambia, meanwhile, quoted team officials as saying that the bonus "was made in accordance with what was laid down in the budget for the team's participation at the tournament."

"My area is technical," Zambia manager Patrick Phiri told The Post.

"There are people who comment on these other things. You know them."
