Cameroon Footballer Collapses, Dies On US Pitch
James Ugo Metuge, a footballer with Kumba Lakers Football Club, recently collapsed and died on a football pitch in the US.
Ugo left for US early this year with hopes to pass the Los Angeles Galaxy FC test into the team.Unfortunately, when he failed the test, he was asked to return to Cameroon, though he reportedly refused, hoping to make it with another team.
Ugo met his doom in a local football match for a Sierra Leonian selection based in the US, during which he collapsed in the field and died on his way to the hospital.His corpse which is lying in a mortuary in the US is expected to reach Cameroon on Thursday, July 5, 2007.
The Post learned that US aviation officers say about FCFA 16 million is needed for the corpse to be brought to Cameroon.It is reported that some people suggested that the corpse could be buried abroad and 50 percent of the money given to the family, but the latter have reportedly turned down the request.
Ugo, who was born in 1988, began his football career at the age of five, at the St. John's Primary School, Kumba.After his First School Leaving Certificate, FSLC, he joined Borusia Dortmund of Metta Quarters, a Division IV football club.
