Djemba-Djemba was held for seven hours before being released with his girlfriend and allowed into the UK.
But the man they had tried to bring in was refused entry.
A source said: “He was found not to have the proper papers.â€
The incident meant Cameroon international Djemba-Djemba, who was quizzed by cops after a 13-year-old girl was left fighting for life when she was hit by his 4x4, failed to report for pre-season training yesterday.
The club blamed a misunderstanding due to an “administrative errorâ€. A spokesman said: “Eric was not arrested. It was sorted.â€
