The team has vowed to beat the Lions in their own den at the Mfandena sports complex.
Cameroon might still be the leading football team in Africa, according to the latest FIFA rankings, but gone are the days when the mere mention of the Indomitable Lions sent shock waves running down the spines of their adversaries. The Lones Stars of Liberia arrived in the country via Douala the day before yesterday promising to beat the Lions in their own den at the Mfandena sports complex.
"Our performance is not based on big names", said David Eric Momo Jr, member of the Liberian delegation to Cameroon. "We came to take our three points from Cameroon because we know Equatorial Guinea could possibly beat Rwanda and obtain six points and this will make things difficult for us. So this match is very important for us and we came very sure to be the first team to surprise Cameroon in Cameroon", he reiterated.
Momo Jr disclosed that the Liberian team which is visiting Cameroon officially for the first time, is a blend of old and new players, some playing in professional leagues in Switzerland, Indonesia, Greece and Japan. Though the team is not yet complete in Yaounde, the delegation head is confident that the rest of the five players called up, will arrive in Cameroon today.
The Liberian team had a first training session yesterday at the BEAC sports complex in Yaounde, since their hosts were using the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium. In conformity with FIFA regulations, the Lones Stars will have their first contact with the scene of action on Thursday March 22, when they will train at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.
