An asylum seeker has spent five years in the UK getting thousands in benefits — claiming a village chief placed a CURSE on him.
William Meli, 30, says the voodoo has killed two friends.
He fled Cameroon and now lives in Middlesbrough where he has received benefits worth at least £20,000 and completed an engineering degree he cannot pay for.
Home Office officials have said they will kick him out of Britain unless he provides proof of the curse — but Meli says that is impossible.
He claims he and pals angered their chief by going against tradition and leaving for university in a nearby town. Meli said: “We did not take it seriously.
“But then two people died mysteriously. I fear for my life.â€
Tory MEP Martin Callanan said: “This shows how chaotic the country’s asylum system is.â€
A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We can’t comment on individual cases.â€
