CAMEROUN on Saturday beat Nigeria 5-3 to emerge winner of the African Championship qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, held in Durban, South Africa.
The Camerounians, handled by ex-international Antoine Bell, subdued their Nigerian counterparts, coached by Amodu Shaibu, to clinch the maiden edition of the African championship.
In spite of the loss, Nigeria will alongside Cameroun hoist Africa’s flag in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup slated for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between November 2 and 12.
The Nigerian team is drawn in Group D of the World Cup with Italy, Bahrain and Argentina, while Cameroun will slug it out with Solomon Islands, Portugal and Urugucy.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Gabriel Agu emerged joint top scorer of the championship, scoring nine goals, same number as Mark Williams, former Bafana Bafana of South Africa player.
Frederic Aka of Cote d’Ivoire was named the best player of the championship, while the best goalkeeper award went to Pascal Mbeyo of Cameroun
