I don't think this incident will tarnish Zidane's carrier. He still is a role model for many people around the world, awarded the golden ball, WC 2006, etc. We don't know what Materazzi said just as Chirac didn't see it. Have you ever been in such a stadium? One can see every thing going on on the field. Your eyes are focus on the ball. Chirac's eyes might have been some where else, even the referees and linesmen didn't see it.
