Chelsea launch £40M bid for Barcelona's Eto'o
tribalfootball.com - January 20, 2006
Chelsea are ready to offer £40 million for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.
The Blues had an offer for Eto'o rejected last year, when they tabled a £16 million proposal which included Hernan Crespo and William Gallas in exchange.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is now ready to try again and is moving for the Cameroon ace on the recommendation of Claude Makelele.
Barca are open to the offer, with an insider telling AS it "will consider the bid with interest" due to the club's financial restrictions.
Abramovich knows now is the time to bid for Eto'o with Cameroon missing the World Cup finals this year. Participation at Germany2006 would only have increased the African's price-tag.
