LE COACH DE WEBO EST FACHE.
Osasuna cry foul over Cameroon
Spanish club Osasuna's coach Javier Aguirre has complained about double standards on the release of players for this month's African Nations Cup.
Aguirre says Barcelona had received preferential treatment from the Cameroon Football Federation.
Barcelona have been given permission by Cameroon to delay the release of striker Samuel Eto'o while Osasuna have not been given the same privilege for Pierre Webo, said Aguirre.
"I don't think it is fair," former Mexico coach Aguirre told a news conference on Tuesday.
"I knew Webo would have to leave now so no one has misled me but I don't think it is right given what has happened elsewhere."
Striker Webo will miss Osasuna's King's Cup last-16 second leg against Deportivo Coruna on Wednesday and Saturday's Primera Liga match at Valencia.
Eto'o, however, has been told he can delay his departure until after Barca's game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Barca lead the Primera Liga by four points from Osasuna and Eto'o is their leading scorer with 18 goals in 18 games.
Webo is joint top scorer for Osasuna with four goals alongside Serbia & Montenegro international Savo Milosevic, who is out injured.
"It is difficult for me to interfere in the business of national teams but it doesn't seem fair to give special permission to certain players," said Aguirre.
"Although I don't like complaining, in this case it is Osasuna that have been affected."
The Mexican said he had nothing against Eto'o but it was clear he had more influence with Cameroon than Webo.
"Eto'o is a friend of mine, I like him a lot and he's a marvellous lad. He deserves all the privileges he gets because of the sort of player he is," said Aguirre.
"I asked Webo if he could get permission to stay a few days longer but he doesn't carry the same weight.
"We are going to try and talk with the Cameroon coach again but I don't have much influence either, I'm just a sad Mexican coach," he added.
