DR Congo striker Lomana LuaLua has confirmed that he will play for the DR Congo at the African Nations Cup which starts in Egypt on 20 January.
The 25-year-old was at one point considering staying with his English club Portsmouth to help them climb out of the relegation zone.
But he has agreed to delay his departure for the Simbas training camp until after Portsmouth's crucial league meeting with relegation rivals Everton on 14 January.
"I will leave it to the latest possible point to go," said LuaLua who will captain the DR Congo in Egypt.
"It is a hard decision to make because Portsmouth are in a bad situation but my country is important to me.
"Sometimes it can make the player look bad because you go off to represent your country and certain people say it is because you do not care about your club.
"It does hurt when that happens because Portsmouth are important to me but it is my dream to play in the African Nations Cup."
The Simbas have a tough ask at the African Nations Cup having being drawn in Group B along with former champions Cameroon and World Cup finalists Togo and Angola.
