Frank Lampard is one of three names on the short-list for the Fifa World Player of the Year award.

The Chelsea midfielder is up against Barcelona's Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o following the voting for the prestigious accolade.

Ronaldinho pipped Lampard for the Ballon d'Or award this week so the England international will be hoping to go one better at the glitzy gala in Zurich on December 19.

The winner is decided after the nominations of figures within the worldwide game are collated.

Lampard has enjoyed a fine year in 2005, winning the Premiership title for the first time with Chelsea and emerging as a key figure for club and country.

He set a record for consecutive Premiership appearances during Saturday's win at Portsmouth.

Ronaldinho will again be favourite to scoop the award he won last year but Eto'o has also been an integral part of Barcelona's majestic form.

However, there was heartbreak for the ex-Mallorca marksman when Cameroon failed to qualify for the World Cup finals
