Keshi slams Togo's federation
By Osasu Obayiuwana
Togo coach Stephen Keshi has blamed the country's football federation for poor results at a four-nation tournament.
The Hawks, who will be making their debut at next year's World Cup finals in Germany, placed last at the three-day event in Iran.
Losing 4-2 to Paraguay and 2-0 to hosts Iran, Keshi insisted that bad travel plans, rather than a lack of quality players, was responsible for their poor showing at the competition.
"The players were so tired when they arrived in Iran, it was a miracle they could play their opening game," Keshi told BBC Sport.
"We were supposed to leave Togo on Monday but that was postponed to Tuesday, then Wednesday and we finally left on Thursday.
"We arrived in Tehran at about 2am on Friday morning and we had a game at about 3pm the same day.
"Also, we had to have a seven-hour stopover in Paris before getting our connecting flight to Iran, while our opponent Paraguay had been training in Iran for several days.
"All these problems boil down to the lack of organisation in African football. I hope the results in Iran will teach the Togolese federation a lesson to listen to what I tell them," said.
However, Keshi said he is not discouraged by the results at the Iran tournament.
"I only had about 15 players available because the other players missed flights or were held back by their European clubs.
"Besides, I was fielding a 'B' side at the tournament, because I want to look for new players that can strengthen my squad for the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
"I will concentrate on my World Cup preparations after that," he said.
