South Africa To Face Teranga Lions
Johannesburg - October 24, 2005
Bafana Bafana will play Senegal in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on November 16.
It will be the second time in four years that Bafana have played the Teranga Lions in this annual friendly match, Senegal winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 2002.
The deal is believed to have been tied up at the MTN Africa Cup of Nations draw in Cairo last week, where South African Football Association President Molefi Oliphant was present.
Senegal were by no means the first choice for Safa, who had wanted European opposition for Bafana.

But after failing to secure games against Greece, England and Poland, they turned to the African continent.
Senegal were at the peak of their powers in November 2002, when they came to Johannesburg, having qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations final and World Cup quarterfinal in the same year.
Since then, however, their star has waned somewhat, and the Teranga Lions failed to qualify for World Cup 2006 in Germany.
They do, however, still posess some quality footballers, such as Bolton Wanderers’ El Hadji Diouf, Fulham’s Pape Bouba Diop and Wigan’s Henri Camara.
Diop, nicknamed ‘The Wardrobe’ after his imposing frame, is rumoured to be on Arsenal’s shopping list.
After the departure of Frenchman Guy Stephan, Senegal are currently coached by locals Abdoulaye Sarr and Amara Traore.
Rumours are that the Senegalese Football Association want to bring in another foreign coach before the MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals, but Camara has spoken out against this.
“Every player in the national team does not want to change coaches,†Camara told L’Observateur in Senegal.
“We are happy with them (Sarr and Traore). They know the group of players well and are competent.
"If we bring in another coach now it will be very difficult for them to get to know the players in such a short space of time.â€
