Human Rights Watch Says Cameroon Soldier Kill Civilians, Rape Women In Anglophone Regions
In a report released this Monday July 22nd, 2019 Human Right Watch indicts the Cameroonian security forces of killing civilians, and raping anglophone women. The report reveals that the soldiers have killed at least four civilians and raped one woman since Mid-June 2019 during security operations. Those killed according to the report, include an elderly man with a physical disability and a young man with a mental disability.
Citing some cases, Human Rights watch narrated the experience of a woman who was raped by soldiers in Kumbo, Bui Division North West region. The soldiers stole all her money after raping her at gun point in the toilet.
Pa Vincent Winkar, 90, with hearing and mobility impairments was brutally murdered in his kitchen by over 20 soldiers on June 21, in Kumbo.
On July 4, Soldiers killed Fru Carine, a 24-year-old nurse, and severally wounded her 15-year-old sister in their home in Bamenda, human Rights watch revealed. The report also cited the attack on Alachu Neighborhood in Bamenda that lead to the burning of several homes and killing of civilians Neba Godlove and 20-year-old Nche Otaghie with mental disability.
To Lewis Mudge Central African Director at Human Rights, these latest crimes add to the a long string of abuses by Cameroonian security forces, and instead of seeing that justice is done, Cameroon's authorities deny that their forces are killing and raping people, so it essential to remind them that the world is watching.
