Coutinho became the third most expensive player of all time when moved to the Nou Camp from Liverpool for £143million.

However, there has been much speculation as to how he will fit into Ernesto Valverde’s plans as his settled team currently top the La Liga table.

And Iniesta apparently thinks his place in the Barcelona squad will be put into jeopardy and has not taken too lightly to the transfer.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, the Spaniard rolled his eyes and refused to look at Coutinho when he first met the squad.

Luis Suarez, Coutinho’s former Liverpool team-mate, and fellow Brazilian Paulinho were among the first to greet the star.

Ivan Rakitic is another player who may lose out because of the 25-year-old’s arrival but even he has not been so cold, it is said.

Diario Gol add that Iniesta, 33, is coming towards the end of his Barcelona career as boss Valverde now limits his game time.

However, when Coutinho was asked about his new team-mate he insisted that he wanted to learn off the World Cup winner.

Coutinho joined Barcelona for £142million.

“Iniesta for me is a genius, it’s an honour to play with him and learn from him,” Coutinho said.

“What I like most is to be with the group and be able to play, the rest is up to the coach.

“What I will do is work hard.”

And Iniesta certainly seemed to put on a brave face in public as he snapped two pictures of himself with Coutinho before publishing them on Twitter.

Coutinho is currently injured and may not make is Barcelona for another three weeks.
