Eto was the worse captain the ILS has ever had in terms of achievement because he made himself the star, but he remains the one who made us progress in terms of treatment of players. He believed that all the monies made from football had to go to players and not the thieves from fecafoot, that is why he fought fecafoot throughout as captain of the ILS. But he was one of the leaders of the team even when Song was captain. Most of the time at half time he did all the talking like Moukandjo is doing today. Moukandjo might not be of the same talent level but he is humble and reduces himself to everyone's level which makes the team come together because the team remains the star instead of individuals as was the case when Eto was captain. The captain does not have to be the best player but it is mostly the management of players and Moukandjo has proven that he can manage players on the field better. But Eto did a lot for the ILS, he advocated for the professionalization of the ILS which to a certain extent has been attained. But I don't see what the big deal about being a captain is. We won the AFCON partly because of a combination of factors. Our players stayed away from the media, remained concentrated, where physically fitter than most teams, Moukandjo's leadership and also because we had an inform player in Bassogog who was unstoppable. He could possess the ball and help our defense to set. The stupid coach erred in failing to play Njie and it would have cost us the game against Senegal. He should have played Njie in that game.
I think if we had players like Eto, Song, Mouting, and Njie no team in the world can stop us. I really like Petrus Boumal and I am disappointed that he did not make it to the team. I think he is way better than all the holding midfielders we have and could be a real star at the world stage, even better than Kante. The young man can really play and I will give Broos credit for scouting him. But I remain persuaded that our best defense would have been with Nkoulou and Ngadeu Micheal and it wil be our problem during the confederation cup finals.
