Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren insists that Rodolph Douala remains his number one transfer target despite the Cameroon international's ineligibility for Boro's Uefa Cup campaign.
Douala featured in Sporting's UEFA Champions League qualifier with Udinese on Wednesday and rules state that the player cannot turn out in European competition for more than one club.
Nevertheless, McClaren remains unperturbed and confirmed: "Being cup-tied does not affect things really. It's been no secret that we want him.
"There are cups in this country for him to play in, not to mention a full Premier League season."
McClaren, who has had an initial bid rejected for the Sporting winger, is expected to come back with an offer in the region of £7 million.
