It means nothing and has never meant anything other than stifle development. Those who come from homogenous areas will notice that those areas are never developed. Real estate in those areas remain the same with no increase in value. What is the value of a house in Yaoundé and the same house in Bafoussam for example where the people refuse to sell land to foreigners. The houses there mean nothing as of now until the minds of those people change to accept diversity and start investing in their areas. Secondly, a person from the same tribe as yourself is even more envious of you and will harm you more than a person from another tribe. It is an unnecessary comfort zone people sought to belong to which does not mean anything. Maybe it is used to fight off adversity coming from another group of people but to me it is nonsense. All those who have tried to kill Biya are people from his tribe. All those advocating for their tribes here have been harmed more by people from the same tribe.
The bigger issue here, is why would the government of Cameroon hire a French and Moroccan firm to structure the choreography of the opening ceremony of the AFCON 2016. Why not hire a local choreographer who will base it on our ethnic cultures and showcase Cameroon to the rest of the world. It is an opportunity to show case our culture to the rest of the world and we turn around and hire a French firm. Secondly, it is money that could have gone to a local business man in Cameroon. How do we think in that country. What a pity, the more we grow the more we remain colonized. The French might as well just take over the running of the Cameroonian economy. Why are we giving money away. Assuming for the sake of argument that we don't have a local choreographer why can we not make sure we structure the contract such that this person must hire local professionals at every step of the process so the next time we are hosting such an event we can revert to local help.
