According to Reuters, Samuel Eto’o and Georgette met Pope Francis for a special audience held before a special interreligious “Match for Peaceâ€, at the Paul VI hall at the Vatican.
The London based news agency reported that current and former soccer stars representing various religious faiths did participate in the “Match for Peaceâ€, which was held in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Monday night.
The game was part of the Pope's call for 'dialogue' in times of religiously motivated wars and to promote a diplomatic solution to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Argentina manager Gerardo 'Tata' Martino managed the two teams. The two teams, named PUPI and SCHOLAS were captained by Zanetti and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
