One question which many asked before but seem to have shoved it under the carpet in a fit of patriotism is: 'what the hell were the Lions doing in Cameroon at that time?' Most other teams, especially those who did not camp in their countries, were already on their way to Brazil or on the (North or South) American continents. Don't those countries have flags? Did they have to bring those players to Cameroon to hand over flags? The problem with Cameroon is this folklore around things. We are so prompt to chase shadows and symbols over substance. Those players may have been wrong not to attend a 'flag giving' ceremony. But let's be honest - that whole stay in Cameroon should not have happened. When Mbia waved the Cameroon flag after winning the Europa League, was that handed to him by the PM? When Eto'o covered himself in the Cameroon flag after each of his Champions League triumphs - was that handed to him by the government? When Bassong plays with a Cameroon flag as a wrist-band is it Paul Biya who gave it to him. Let's stop folklore.
Merci de patienter...
