Don't forget that the NBA has shortened the traditional rookie contract. It used to be 3 years guaranteed for first-round picks before the 2011 lockout. Now it has changed to 2 years guaranteed with a team option for the 3rd and 4th years. That's not a lot of time to grow for a youngster that has only been playing team basketball for 3 years. And you know it's all about that second contract. A lot of high first-round picks haven't made it that far. As far as Joakim Noah is concerned, he did the right thing staying an extra-year. If you look at the centers (Patrick O'bryant, Ryan Hollins, Hilton Armstrong) that were drafted the year he was supposed to be #1, none of them has been All-stars. This is to say it was a very weak draft. On top of that, Embiid has not shown he can carry a team on his back (ironically the nature of his injury). And you know this is the least one can expect from a #1 pick. Sometimes, the brother has seemed lost on the court, picking up quick fouls. He needs to add muscle to his thin frame, develop some mental toughness and most and foremost improve his basketball IQ.
I want the best for our little brother. None of us wants him to be another Boumtje-Boumtje right ?
