Pandiani favours Birmingham move

Walter Pandiani has revealed his desire to remain with Birmingham on a permanent basis.

Pandiani: Impressed with Blues (TonyMarshall/Empics)

The Uruguayan striker insisted that personal terms would not be a problem after joining Blues on loan from Deportivo La Coruna in January.

But Pandiani, who scored the opening goal in Sunday's 2-1 win over Arsenal, is aware the fee wanted by the Spanish club for his services could be a stumbling block.

Blues manager Steve Bruce has already indicated that the club will not be held to ransom by Deportivo.

City are understood to be prepared to offer around #1.5million for the player, plus the same amount again based on appearances and his success rate.

Pandiani said: 'This idea that I have in my mind is to stay here in Birmingham. My agent isn't listening to any other offers from England because I am very happy with the set-up here.

'I am in tune with the manager and I like it here. I don't think the terms of my contract will be a problem.

'It is really between the two clubs now. It is up to them to talk and I am not entirely sure what Deportivo are asking for.

'That is out of my hands but I want to stay here and the fans have been fantastic since I first came to the club.

'I want to stay in England with Birmingham City and that is my preferred choice.'

Pandiani has scored four times in 13 starts for Birmingham but has also struck the woodwork on several occasions.

Bruce has stated that he wants to keep Pandiani and also bring back Mikael Forssell from Chelsea now that he is showing positive signs of overcoming his season-long knee problem.

Forssell spent the 2003-2004 campaign on loan with City and scored 19 goals but the knee injury setback brought his current campaign to a halt in September, since when he has made only a couple of substitute appearances for Chelsea.
