After less than three months of ‘marital’ bliss, punctuated by a whirlwind pregnancy-miscarriage, the Fenômeno has cut ties to MTV Brasil presenter and (now) emerging model Daniella Ciccarelli. The break-up had been on the cards ever since Ciccarelli pulled a psycho turn at the couple’s Chantilly ‘wedding’ on Valentine’s Day 2005. Far from a one-off, it’s been alleged that Daniela had also played discus with a DVD player and a mobile phone.
Ronaldo had been shocked at the Ferrari acceleration from calm beauty to furious beast when ‘La Ciccarelli’ unceremoniously kicked Caroline Bitencourt out of her ‘wedding’ in France. The source of her ire was that the over-made-up model (claimed by many to be a card-carrying member of the São Paulo gold-digging scene) was on the arm of Daniela’s ex-boyfriend João Paulo Diniz.
The depth of her rage shocked fellow guests, causing rumours that Daniela was still stuck on the Supermarket heir. This rich aperitif was followed by a veritable buffet of regular flips. Daniela is accused of being the cause of a rift between Ronaldo and two of his closest friends; Rodrigo Paiva (his personal secretary) and César (personal assistant since his Cruzeiro days).
The more cynical allege that Ciccarelli was centralising control over Ronaldo by taking away his most-trusted advisors. Perhaps there is nothing but coincidence that Ciccarelli helped Ronaldo choose a new manager as his exes (Martins & Pita) went to jail for tax fraud – and the chosen one (Portuguese Miguel – Figo’s rep) is also her modelling rep in Europe.
It was, in fact, Paiva that stepped in to quash a juicy story when ‘La Ciccarelli’ threw a mobile phone at Ronaldo’s driver, Pappi, when she found some condoms in the glove compartment. Despite telling the toothy typhoon that the French letters were for Guti’s use, cellphone hit forehead as Daniela went ballistic. This really set the alarm bells ringing.
Ronaldo had already confessed to a friend in the Spanish capital that he was ready to throw in the towel. Apart from her wild mood swings, Ciccarelli had been spending the vast majority of her time back in São Paulo (working on her cheesy dating show; ‘Beija Sapo’ – ‘’Kiss the Frog’) rather than with her new ‘husband’.
This (anonymous) friend encouraged Ronaldo to make the break, joined by many of the close friends and family that Daniela had sidelined.
