Abramovich spent £1M-a-day at Chelsea
tribalfootball.com - May 2, 2005
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has spent an amazing £1.02 million-a-day since taking over at Stamford Bridge.
The Russian billionaire's total investment in 670 days now stands at an amazing £683.4m. The amount Abramovich has already pumped into the Blues is staggering.
Not only did he spend £140m to buy the club from ex-owner Bates but he has shelled out £213m on transfer fees, £215m on wages and £115.4m on an interest-free loan.
Even those unbelievable figures will not stop Blues boss Jose Mourinho from embarking on a summer spree to bring in at least three new stars.
Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon said: "We did a lot in terms of getting our squad size right last year, moving 14 players out and bringing seven in.
"This year it will probably be about three in to maintain a squad of 24.
"But it's wrong to say we're going to keep throwing money at the club.
"We've invested a huge amount and there is a long-term plan over the next five years aimed at recouping that investment."
