@Mr. Ndokoti, the half-wise man
Otto Pfister has been a better coach than any of his predecessors or successors, and the reason: “he has been very candid” about our limits in terms of talents. I have listen to this line of reasoning repeatedly and couldn’t help, but shake my head for such a display of shallow mindedness.
Not ruling out the likelihood of a team to succeed that has players who are members of the finest clubs modern football has to offer is logical. Taking a look at the reservoir of this team in term of disseminated talents throughout the world is wise. Understanding the football culture of this team is crucial in assessing his strengths and weaknesses. And that is where you are all wrong!
We do not win based on “ntong”. Only losers love to believe that winners are winners by chance. Our team is the best the African continent has ever known; it enjoyed international fame and is greatly feared even to this date where it has suffered a sharp decline compared to this successful years 2000-2008. And no, the blindness of a referee has nothing to do with the Indomitable Lions winning the African Cup of Nations in Surulere stadium in 2000. We were the best team, period.
The root of our poor performances is elsewhere; it is structural, organizational, and depleted of its economic base. With a better structural management of the national team, all other youth teams, and our national championship, we would certainly improve our efficiency to perform. A better organization needs to be put in place at the national level with a reliable detection system, a training for youth trainers, referees, club managers. Making sure that funds generated by our football are invested in improving our sports facilities, educating our youngsters, and paying our local players decent wages.
In spite of our slackness, we are still among the nations on the verge to obtain qualification for the World Cup in Brazil next year. We play against teams such as Tunisia that have been modernizing their football structure for years at a very consistent level. Lucky them! And still, we are able to compete.
Now, imagine we could be able to fix our basic problems and you might see with a zest of critical thinking skills the limitless possibilities this team could enjoy! Only wishful thinking will dispute the natural talent of any Cameroonian team at any given period of time starting from 1970. Why? Go figure!
