Sierra Leone FA adopts a new constitution

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has adopted a new constitution during a one day extra-ordinary congress convened for the first time at Kabala in the Koinadugu district, northern Sierra Leone on Saturday, April 14, 2012.

After going through it page by page, the new constitution was unanimously adopted by football stakeholders at the congress in front of representatives of the world's football governing body, FIFA Primo Corvaro, a Portuguese national and a Cameroonian Prosper Abega.

Corvaro, Abega and a Swiss national Stahli Salome, a member of the legal department at FIFA helped to put together the new SLFA statutes to be in line with the FIFA standard statutes.

Major amendments in the new constitution are the membership of the SLFA, qualifications for executive positions, proportional representation at congress, addition of positions in the executive committee and term limit.
The membership was cut down by 20 from 67 to 47, the coaches, referees and retired footballers associations were accepted as new members. Only three second tier league clubs selected by their respective regions will be delegates at congress unlike before wherein all second tier league clubs were delegates.

A person can qualify to contest for an executive position of the SLFA if he or she is a Sierra Leonean citizen and resides in Sierra Leone for a period of not less than five years prior to the congress to which they seek to be elected.

He or she must also hold an executive position of a club or body associated with SLFA as a member during the five years preceding the election. However, there are other qualifications which remain the same as they were not amended.

This new section in the constitution will prohibit the current SLFA boss Nahim Khadi who has been out of Sierra Leone for over a year now from contesting the presidential race expected in July as well as potential candidates.

Two new posts were created in the executive committee to increase the positions to nine and there will be no term limit for executive positions. The four years per term remain the same.

16 out of the 47 delegates must represent the four regions of Sierra Leone at congress and it must be an equal proportional representation of four delegates each. The composition must be three second tier league clubs and one female administrator for each region.
Merci de patienter...
