Real Madrid want their on-loan Cameroon midfielder Geremi back from Middlesbrough unless the Premiership club are prepared to fork out in the region of £10million for him.
'Unless a super offer arrives for Geremi, we will have him next season,' Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano told the Spanish sports newspaper AS.
Geremi joined Middlesbrough at the start of the current season and has made such an impact that Boro coach Steve McClaren is keen to keep the 24-year-old at the Riverside.
But the Spanish giants also recognise his value.
'In the Premier League he has proved himself at a great level and he can be very useful to Madrid,' said Valdano.
Boro would probably have to pay the agreed 14million euro (£9.6million) to exercise their preferential option to buy Geremi whom Madrid regard as extremely adaptable.
'The same contribution that Guti gives a team from the midfield to the attack, he (Geremi) can give from the midfield to the back,' added Valdano.
