You seem to be missing the underlying issues raised by Ndokoti, Fan'mot and Senegalais.
If one goes by your logic, then Lechantre should never have become coach in 1998. Cameroonian authorities could have decided that since the best thing for the country is to go for a coach who had been successful with the Lions before - then after Claude Leroy decided not to continue after the 1998 World Cup, they should have recalled the coach who won the Nations Cup in 1984 or Zutig Branko (who qualified them to their first World Cup) or Nepomiachi (who took them to the quarter finals in 1990 instead of giving an opportunity to the said Pierre Lechantre (an unknown trainer at the time).
