Talking about BAE, I always thought it was in the best interest of the ILICs to play him as a winger or a left midfielder given his offensive acumen. Harry Redknapp as you pointed out made good use of Bale, a trained leftback, to use his talent rather as a winger, and the guy is just a delight to watch. The same should be done of BAE as he doesn't really fit the cameroon defender model of "man pass, ball no pass; ball pass, man no pass".
