A fund to finance research on cardiac arrest named after deceased Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe will be launched in France on Sunday.
Initiated by la Fondation Coeur et Arteres (Heart and Arteries Foundation), the Fonds Marc-Vivien Foe is a project entirely dedicated to fund researches on cardiac arrest, a medical emergency that causes 50,000 deaths in France per year, including a thousand active athletes.
Foe’s widow Marie-Louise has accepted to be the matron of the ceremony to be held at the Stade Felix Bollaert where RC Lens will be facing off against Lyon on Sunday, according to the club's official website.
“This fund can help save lives and prevent families from living through what our family lived through when Foe passed away,†she said.
Organizers say donations can be made to by mobile phone text messages on the fund’s official site: www.fonds-foe.com.
Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’o will also take part in the ceremony.
Foe collapsed during the semi-finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup between Cameroon and Colombia on June 26, 2003 in Lyon, and died afterwards due to heart-related problems. He was on loan at Manchester City from Lyon. He was 28.
