World Cup trophy arrives in Istanbul
Roger Milla will be accompanying the trophy in Istanbul.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy arrived Tuesday in Istanbul, where it will spend the next two days.
The trophy came to Turkey as a part of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola. Turkish football fans will get the chance to see the trophy for themselves on Thursday when it goes on display at an open-air event to be held in front of the Cevahir Shopping Center.
Former Cameroon international player Roger Milla, who played in three World Cups for the Cameroon national team and scored four goals in the 1990 World Cup at the age of 38, will be accompanying the trophy in Istanbul.
His appearance for Cameroon at the 1994 World Cup made Milla the oldest player ever to appear in a World Cup. He also scored a goal against Russia, setting a record as the oldest goal scorer in a World Cup tournament.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will have traveled to 83 countries in 225 days, covering 138,902 kilometers in the process, before arriving in South Africa ahead of the World Cup. Turkey is the 78th country and Istanbul is the 85th city the tour has visited.
