Löw takes Frings off list
Won't travel to South Africa: Torsten Frings
Torsten Frings is not on Joachim Löw’s list for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The 33-year old captain of Bundesliga club Werder Bremen was thus informed by German coach Joachim Löw and his assistant Hansi Flick during a personal visit. The former national player (79 caps) had his last appearance in the Mannschaft during a 1-0 loss to Norway on February 11, 2009, in Duesseldorf.
Joachim Löw said: “These upcoming weeks should be filled with important decisions. We’ll deal very upfront with our players, they will know who’s a part of our plans and who is not. We owed this personal talk to Torsten today, as he has made such a vital contribution to our team for years.â€
Frings said following the announcement: “This comes as no surprise, there had been indications for a while. I accept this decision, even though, obviously, I’m of a different opinion.â€
