Fan drops allegation of assault against Assou-Ekotto

Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto will face no further investigation after a fan withdrew an allegation that the player had assaulted him. Assou-Ekotto, 25, was involved in a confrontation with a supporter as he left the pitch at the end of Spurs’ 1-0 defeat by Wolves on Saturday. Police will now end their enquiries as the player and the fan will meet this week to settle the matter amicably. The FA has also said it will take no further action over the incident. Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan led Assou-Ekotto away after the incident and later gave his version of events to the club’s security team. One eye witness said the Cameroon international raised his hands to the supporter’s neck after receiving verbal abuse.The incident was not filmed as part of television coverage of the match but was likely to have been captured on CCTV as it happened so close to the tunnel.
