Thuram, 36, was diagnosed with the same problem that his brother tragically died from during a medical at Paris St Germain.
He said said: "It seems that it is the same problem that my brother had and which cost him his life on the basketball court."
The Frenchman is now out of contact with Barcelona as he was not offered a new contract after last season.
