Arsenal target Kameni leaves Espanyol waiting
tribalfootball.com - June 13, 2005
Espanyol are sweating on Carlos Kameni's response on a new contract offer.
The Cameroon international goalkeeper was scouted by Manchester United and Arsenal last season and his current buyout clause is a relatively low £4 million.
While United have since signed Edwin van der Sar from Fulham, Arsenal remain in the frame for Kameni, with the London club's chief scout, Steve Rowley, having made several trips to Barcelona to check on the African youngster last season.
Espanyol's new contract offer is on improved terms and runs to 2010. Most significantly, his buyout clause is also increased to £8 million.
Kameni is still to respond to the offer and may be holding out for better terms. Interestingly, after star striker Raul Tamudo, Kameni's name sells the most replica shirts in Espanyol's club shop.
