The rapid emergence of Geremi as a player with genuine world class qualities is one of the major reasons why Steve McClaren’s men have found a higher gear over the past few weeks. It’s now perfectly clear why Chelsea were prepared to pay £7.7m for the ubiquitous Cameroon international during the summer
Chelsea’s hesitancy is Boro’s gain. In fact it’s hard to imagine that McClaren could have made a more astute signing when completing the deal to bring in the Real Madrid midfielder on a season-long loan.
Geremi needed a few weeks to come to terms with the pace of the English game, but now he is flying.
He enjoyed a great game against Bolton Wanderers, getting plenty of balls into the box and fittingly scoring the clinching goal.
If Geremi can maintain this form, then he will become a crucial cog in the McClaren Machine. But he will also alert other clubs about his abilities.
This may yet lead to a scramble for his signature next summer.
By all accounts, Geremi has settled in very well on Teesside. Let’s hope he continues to fall in love with the region and wants to stay for a few years.
In the meantime we can all sit back and enjoy his special talents, which are contributing considerably towards Boro staying in the heady heights of third place in the Premiership.
Geremi was one of the more prominent players from the start against Bolton, linking up with the players around him and creating havoc in the visitors’ defence.
It’s clear that Geremi has helped Joseph Job to come out of his shell, and his fellow Cameroonian continues to carry out a great roving role.
