After a week off for national team matches, league football returned to Europe and South America. Raymond Kalla and Albert Meyong Ze each scored their second goals of the new league seasons in Germany and Portugal respectively.
– In Germany
Kalla scored off of a header in the 15th minute to open the scoring in his club Bochum’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund. In Germany’s Bundesliga 2, three Cameroonian forwards all started this week: Daniel Wansi for Dynamo Dresden (2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt); Francis Kioyo for Rot Weiss Essen (1-0 loss to Duisburg) and Cyrille Florent Bella with LR Ahlen (0-0 with Aue).

Samuel Eto’o once again started at left forward for Barcelona, with Henrik Larsson at center forward. Eto’o was involved in several nice buildups for Barcelona but also missed a few clear cut chances at goal.

– In England
Timothee Atouba started at left midfield for Tottenham in their 0-0 draw with Norwich. Atouba had a goal bound shot well saved by Norwich’s keeper to preserve the tie. Lauren started at right back for Arsenal as they kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 3-0 win over Fulham. Joseph Desire Job came off the bench for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 win over Birmingham City. In the Coca Cola Championship, Patrick Suffo entered as a sub at the 46th minute for Coventry City in his club’s 3-0 loss to Leeds United.
– In France’s Ligue 1
The star performer amongst Cameroon’s players was Jean Makoun who played in midfield for Lille in their 1-0 win over Nice. Herve Tum rebounded from the Indomitable Lions loss to Egypt by playing well in Metz’ 0-0 draw with Bordeaux. Modeste Mbami warmed up for his midweek Champions League play by starting in midfield as PSG continued their struggles by only drawing with newly promoted Istres 1-1.

– In Belgium
Patrice Noukeu started in midfield for Mouscron in their 1-0 win over Beveren. Eric Matoukou played centerback for Racing Genk in their 1-1 draw with Standard Liege; Matthieu Assou Ekotto started in midfield for La Louviere in his club’s first lsos of the season 1-0 to Lokeren. Aloys Nong played at forward for FC Brussels (1-0 loss to Westerloo) and Samuel Ipoua entered as a sub in the 57th minute for St. Trond in their loss (2-1) against La Gantoise.
– In Turkey
Rigobert Song’s Galatasaray continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win over Samsunspor as Song was at the heart of his club’s defense. Souleymanou Hamidou was in goal as Denizlispor lost to league leaders Trabzonspor 2-0 and Herve Zengue started in midfield for Ankaragucu in his club’s 1-0 loss to Malatyaspor.
– In Switzerland
former Indomitable Lion midfielder Augustine Simo made his comeback from injury by scoring the second goal as FC Aarau beat St. Gallen 4-1. Promising central defender Armand Deumi led FC Thun’s defense in their 0-0 draw with Neuchatel Xamax. Although his club did not play this weekend, it is worth noting the recent accomplishments of 20 year old forward Achille Njanke with Swiss Challenge League (2nd Division) club FC Meyrin. Since being acquired in mid August, Njanke has scored 4 goals in 3 matches for his new club!
– In Romania
Jeremie Njock returned to Universitatae Craiova. After going on unsuccessful trials in Portugal and France, Njock did return to his club, where he scored 11 goals last season, and came off the bench in the 46th minute as Universitatae Craiova defeated Cluj 3-2.
– In South America
Alain N’Kong came on as a substitute in midfield in the 80th minute of the first week of action in Uruguay as his club Nacional defeated Rentistas 1-0.
