A late Mbarga Armand strike for division two outfit, AS Lausanne of Yaounde sent the Yong side crashing out at the round of 16 of the cup of Cameroon played last Wednesday at the Reunification stadium in Douala. This early exit from the competition therefore means Yong Sports have to keep climbing higher on the classification table and save their almost disastrous season by maintaining their status as a top flight team – avoid relegation which seemed probable at the start of the season.
Nobody could have predicted the fall of YOSA infront of their opponent but the boys from Yaounde gave convincing reasons as to why they are leaders of the MTN Elite Two. AS Lausanne proved to be a heavy nut to crack throughout the first segment of the game with YOSA orchestrating several offensive move but the opposite defenders kept on their guards.YOSA frustration could only be expressed through Kongnyuy Jude’s inability to keep his cool in a goal mouth tussle late into the first half as he ballooned his ball wider over the post guarded by Ashu Isaac for Lausanne who was undisputedly the man of the match throughout the encounter as he stopped all moves pioneered by his opponents. No team could break the deadlock after 45 minutes.
At the blast of the referee’s whistle for the end of the game, both sides were still tied at zero goals each way and extra time was to decide the fate of both teams. But the news that just arrived at the reunification stadium gave more hopes for the division two outfit as Racing of Bafoussam, a regional division two side in the west region of Cameroon had just eliminated AS Matelots of Douala. Galvanized, AS Lausanne put up a stiff resistance as if to say they were ready and heading for penalty shoot-outs when the miracle finally occurred three minutes from time .A lose ball from the right flank of YOSA defence was exploited by Mvogo Fouda who had just made his way just five minutes onto the pitch as he placed a cross which seemed to be losing its velocity but Mbarga Armand was swift to outpace two defenders before curling the ball above the goalkeeper’s head to finally deliver his side.The goal seemed to have reawaken YOSA but their fight-back was too late to produce a come-back .
YOSA’s first outing at the reunification stadium this year has proven to be a nightmare for them with a significant defeat and are expected to bounce back to victory in the MTN Elite 1 during their next outing still in Douala against Union who are on continental assignment as well as Tiko United, Coton sport of Garoua and Panthere of Nde. The rest of the teams would take to the pitches this weekend as there promise to be fireworks in a local derby pitting Astres of Douala and AS Matelots at the Reunification stadium. Unisport of Bafang and Sable of Batie will lock horns at the Bafang municipal stadium in another regional derby as well as that opposing Renaissance of Ngoumou to Canon Sportive of Yaounde, while the Ngaoundere University football club takes on Fovu of Baham.
