North West representative en route to their South West hideout for last minute preparation. Elite football old timer, PWD Bamenda has been in camp since one month in Bambui in their bid to rewrite their name in division one.
They are finalising preparations ahead of this year’s interpools during which they will be playing in the Douala pool. Their opener will be against Dynamo of Douala in a game that has been tagged, a replay of the finals of the 1979 Cup of Cameroon. Of course, the Bamenda club fell 1-0 to the Douala team. When the die will be cast on Saturday for the second game at the Douala Omnisport stadium, sleeping dogs would have been awaken as PWD will open their onslaught against no pushovers, Dynamo of Douala.
Preparations within the rank and file of the team have been tense. Last week, the President of the club, Issa Bongam supplied a consignment of equipment to the team which very much count on his financial largess for survival. The team left their training grounds in Bambui earlier this week for their journey to a hideout in the South West Province. It is from this locality that they will regularly board the 36 seats coasta bus made available to them by the president. In a chat with PWD headcoach, Kamgue Justin, he disclosed that the boys are committed and have won their last six matches to qualify for the tournament. According to Kamgue Justin, the new generation of players are a treasure of talents that will recreate the glorious path of football marked by PWD of yesteryears.
The coach fell short of commenting on the trump cards of the team, insinuating that for strategic reasons he will not talk about the technical quality of the boys fondly and darlingly called P Ton Ton or Abakwa boys. Briefly put, « my boys are in top form awaiting the blast of the referee’s whistle, » remarked coach Kamgue who is assisted by veteran striker, Ben Bola. The team settled in their South West camp yesterday as management denies specifying the place. They have been secretive about their choice of a place in the neighbouring province acknowledging the fact that they needed a quiet corner for training during the competition and have got one in the South West Province.
