Foe: « We are beating ourselves with mistakes ». MARC Vivien Foe today apologised to City’s fans and paymasters for the side’s abject display at Southampton. The 2-0 defeat plunged Kevin Keegan’s men into an early season crisis but both players and manager have vowed that the fight back starts now.
Keegan will not be quitting the Maine Road hot-seat and Foe and company have pledged to put things right.
« I am very, very sorry for the supporters, we all are, » said the Cameroon midfielder. « When you have the quality of players we have in the team then that kind of performance is unacceptable. The only thing I can say to them is it will not happen again.
« We have had a long talk in the dressing room and we are determined to be mentally strong over the next few weeks and do everything we possibly can to make the fans happy again.
« It wasn’t just the result for which we are sorry but the way we played. It was terrible and for that I also apologise to the board and to Peter Schmeichel who saved us on many occasions.
« Things will get better but we have to show more team work, better communication and we have to fight for one another on the pitch. We had a good discussion. Everyone understands how each other is feeling and hopefully that will be reflected on the pitch.
« We are almost beating ourselves at the moment with our unnecessary mistakes. We are losing concentration too much. We have to stick together and things will come right.
« It is better that we have this kind of game and discussion now with nine games gone than with nine games to go. People will say that what they saw was relegation form but I don’t think that will be the case.There is still time to climb the table but we have to wake up now. »
