Patrick Mboma has insisted he is desperate to make his move to Sunderland permanent this summer, whatever the outcome of their relegation battle.
The Cameroon striker is currently battling to be fit to be reunited with England striker Kevin Phillips in The Black Cats’ frontline at West Ham on Saturday as Peter Reid’s men bid to pull clear of the dogfight at the foot of the Premiership.
And, despite scoring just one goal in a red and white shirt and the club’s slip into the danger zone since he joined on loan from Parma two months ago, Mboma said: « The more time I spend here the more I am convinced that I made the right decision and the more I want to earn a transfer to the club.
« When I first came here, I said I had come to play well and win a permanent place at the club and my feelings on that have not changed.
« I know I have to do well in the remaining few games to achieve that, but I don’t feel under any pressure.
« I have confidence in my ability – I was voted African Player of the Year – and I know I can be an important player for the club. »
