Thierry Henry dedicated his first goal in France's 3-2 win over Turkey to Cameroon's Marc-Vivien Foé, 28,who died suddenly during his team's 1-0 win over Colombia in the other semi-final of the Confederations Cup. Tributes have been flowing in for the Manchester City midfielder.
"There are no words to describe it. We learned about it when we arrived, actually when the players were warming up," said an emotional Santini, who coached Foé at Lyon. Some like former Lyon team-mate Grégory Coupet openly wept during the moment of silence before the Turkey match.
Santini asked the Cameroonian's former team-mates Coupet and Sidney Govou if they wanted to sit out the Turkey match, but in the end both decided to play.
Foe had spent the season on loan to Manchester City and the Premiership club were hoping to sign him from Lyon.
He had previously played for West Ham United, after moving there in a £4m deal in 1999.
FIFA chief Sept Blatter insists Sunday's final between France and Cameroon should go ahead, but his opinion goes against those of players obtained by Eurosport.

"I don't know if Cameroon will play the final on Sunday, but it is going to be hard, they don't have a mind for playing football right now, neither do we.

Je suis pour que la finale se joue, à condition de la gagner et de dédier le trophée à Marc Vivien FOE, maintenant, si ce ne sont pas les joueurs qui en ont décidé, si ces mêmes joueurs n'arrivent pas à marquer plus d'un but en une rencontre, et ne peuvent pas s'imposer devant les injustices comme ce qui s'est passé en 1990, je ne sais vraiment pas et MVF sera mort en vain, comme sa mère et peut-être d'autres à venir. Maintenant j'attends les déclarations de WS, enfin s'il dort tranquillement la nuit, parce que des gens comme TPB n'ont sûrement pas de conscience qui viendrait les tourmenter, cela se saurait....

Manchester City have decided to retire their number 23 shirt in tribute to Marc-Vivien Foe.
The 28-year-old midfielder died after collapsing during Cameroon's Confederations Cup game against Colombia.
Foe spent last season on loan at City, scoring nine goals in the Premiership, including City's final goal at Maine Road.
A popular figure in Kevin Keegan's squad, City have decided to remember Foe by making him the last player to wear the number 23 shirt for them.
'The club and supporters believe his contribution and memory will always be part of the history of Manchester City,' City said on their website.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter is considering naming the next Confederations Cup after Foe.
'We have already had a proposal that the next Confederations Cup would bear his name. It is an excellent idea which we will study,' Blatter said.
Speaking after meeting the Cameroon squad, Blatter said Sunday's final against France would take place despite Foe's death.
'They all agreed, they even applauded - they want to play this final.'
'I asked 'what would make Foe happy now - if he knew that you were in the final, would he have applauded?'. At that moment, everybody burst into applause.
'Even in sadness, positive feelings can be expressed. Football must continue and show its strength.'
