They protested the team’s poor performance yesterday at the Yaounde Omnisports stadium. Hundreds of supporters of Tonnerre Kalara club yesterday promised hell to the players when at the close of half time the team was being led 2-1 by visiting Caiman of Douala. The angry crowd told Tonnerre’s players during the period of recess that not even a draw will spare them and their managers beating by the fans and supporters.
When the second half of the game began, management yielded to the request of the supporters who kept shouting that goalkeeper Kemajou be replaced by Tignyemb Amour Patrick. This considerably reduced the mounting tension. The spectator-supporters applauded each brilliant move of Tonnerre in their desire to spur the team to victory. Their hopes shattered when the agile attackers of Caiman scored a third goal. The 3-1 lead created uproar within the supporters who started throwing hard objects on Caiman’s officials. They vented their anger on players and officials of Tonnerre calling names and promising hard times even to the players of Caiman at full time. When the match ended, the mob wanted to go by their words. A contingent of angry supporters jumped over the fence in their attempt to rough handle the players.
The mixed forces of law and order, comprising some policemen and gendarmes, thwarted the move as they prohibited any movement of the supporters onto the field. The peace keepers successfully led the players and officials of both teams out of the stadium. From every indication, Tonnerre is not at peace with their supporters and will need to shake-off their poor show since the start of the current premiership.
